A comprehension is the collection of all such intensions.
- the comprehension of an object is the totality of intensions, that is, attributes, characters, marks, properties, or qualities, that the object possesses, or else the totality of intensions that are pertinent to the context of a given discussion.
  - an intension is any property or quality connoted by a word, phrase, or another symbol
  - an extension

The meaning of a word can be thought of as the bond between the idea the word means and the physical form of the word
- the signifier ( name or 2d object , सङ्केतःक , संकेत चिन्ह , संकेत शब्द ) – the “sound image” or the string of letters on a page that one recognizes as the form of a sign
- the signified ( thought or reference , संकेतबोध , संकेतार्थ ) – the meaning, the concept or idea that a sign expresses or evokes
- the referent ( सङ्केत पदार्थ ) – the actual thing or set of things a sign refers to. See Dyadic signs and Reference (semantics).
