Numbers as Abstractions: Numbers are concepts we use to quantify things. They aren't physical objects themselves, but mental constructs. We use symbols like digits (0, 1, 2, etc.) or numerals (ten, twenty, etc.) to represent these quantities.
Traditional Number Representations (not strictly 1D): Decimal System: The most common system uses digits 0-9. The position of a digit determines its value (10s place, 1s place, etc.). This isn't purely 1D as position matters. Binary System: Computers use binary, where 0 and 1 represent on/off states. While the digits themselves are 1D, a series of them is needed to represent a number.
