मध्यमस्तिष्क (Mid-brain)
अनुमस्तिष्क के सामने का ऊपर का भाग मध्यमस्तिक और नीचे का भाग मेरूशीर्ष (Medulla oblongata) है। अनुमस्तिष्क और प्रमस्तिष्क का संबंध मध्यमस्तिष्क द्वारा स्थापित होता है। मघ्यमस्तिष्क में होते हुए सूत्र प्रमस्तिष्क में उसी ओर, या मध्यरेखा को पार करके दूसरी ओर को, चले जाते हैं।
मध्यमस्तिष्क के बीच में सिल्वियस की अणुनलिका है, जो तृतिय निलय से चतुर्थ निलय में प्रमस्तिष्क मेरूद्रव को पहुँचाती है। इसके ऊपर का भाग दो समकोण परिखाओं द्वारा चार उत्सेधों में विभक्त है, जो चतुष्टय काय या पिंड (Corpora quadrigemina) कहा जाता है। ऊपरी दो उत्सेधों में दृष्टितंत्रिका द्वारा नेत्र के रेटिना पटल से सूत्र पहुँचते हैं। इन उत्सेधों से नेत्र के तारे में होनेवाली उन प्रतिवर्त क्रियाओं का नियमन होता है, जिनसे तारा संकुचित या विस्तृत होता है। नीचे के उत्सेधों में अंत:कर्ण के काल्कीय भाग से सूत्र आते हैं और उनके द्वारा आए हुए संवेगों को यहाँ से नए सूत्र प्रमस्तिष्क के शंखखंड के प्रतिस्था में पहुँचाते हैं।
